Hugs from Grammy Cookie Convoy

This update letter is one full of hope.

Hope that all is well with each of you.

Hope that 2007 will bring the best of everything.

Hope that we will find transportation for the mega shipments of “HUGS”.

Above all else is the Hope that our brave Heroes will remain safe until they return home.

We continue to correspond with General Chris Adams and others who generously offer their assistance to help with our mega shipment transport, which is a very vital part of our project. We are encouraged and hopeful that this part of the Project will once again be back on track soon. We will find a way around the roadblocks in front of us until a solution becomes reality. It may mean that we readjust our logistical thoughts a bit. The Post Office will most likely get busier in 2007.

I am uplifted and encouraged by the brave men & women we are able to support through this “Cookie Convoy.” The following correspondence to and from one of these brave young men reaffirms my hope that we will always be able to thank those who sacrifice so much to protect us all –

I want to send a special Thank You to those who make sure our heroes in uniform receive the kind of reception they deserve when they land on United States soil.

E-mail Correspondence to Soldier from “HFG”:

“…Thanks also for sharing the update letter from Spike Garrett. I would love to forward this on to all those who share in my support to you guys and gals. I know they will appreciate it. I have heard from others about the reception at DFW, and I hoped it was true. I am glad to hear about it from a different perspective…”

Reply from Soldier serving in Iraq:

“…They do the same thing in Bangor, Maine I was coming home from my first tour over here and we arrived at 3am in the morning. I couldn't believe the greeting that we received. Everyone was there – kids, pets everyone... Talk about hitting you right in the heart really DEEP. An UNFORGETABLE moment…”

It is quite difficult to appropriately thank those who continue to support this project. I am so grateful for the individuals who donate from the heart. It is my desire to thank each of you individually; however I must apologize for getting a bit behind in that endeavor. Please know that your financial support and your prayers help keep this project going.

I want to send a big thank you to Lew Brown, our Bentwater neighbor, and the Eastex Detachment of the Marine Corps League who recently contributed $2000.00 to the Hugs from Grammy Cookie Convoy.

I had the distinct pleasure and I must say it was an honor to shake the hands of those Veterans who were in the process of collecting Toys for Tots during Christmas as I met them. Their generosity touches the lives of so many. This project is only one of the grateful recipients. Their help will go a long way in our efforts to support the troops!

We continue working on our 501 (c) 3 non profit status with the help and support of Lew Brown. Ferd Cribbs, an attorney who is also a resident of our Bentwater family has provided the direction to begin this process. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! If we are able to get this part of the project finalized it will be a plus for all of us. After a conversation with a CPA I realize that my effort in acquiring this status is just beginning. Please say a prayer that the diligence needed to secure this status will find its way to the project.

Trustmark Bank in Houston (formerly Republic National Bank) thankfully continues their strong support and we are grateful. It was because of their support from the very beginning that we were able to get this project off the ground.

Thank you to Beth Salato and the Aggie Moms who shipped us a large box full of Valentine Cards with handwritten notes on each 4X6 Postcard. As I was packing and shipping the last of 43 cases (1032 cookies) yesterday I had the opportunity to read some of their heartfelt notes addressed to the soldiers. The “Chocolate Chip Hugs” seem to be a big hit with the troops, but I promise it is the enclosure notes that make the “Hugs” even more special. I was not lucky enough to attend A&M, but I think they would say “Gig em” and after their wonderful support I would have to join in.

Thanks to the Lake Conroe Republican Women’s Organization who took a huge Banner all over Montgomery County for everyone to sign. The following pictures are only a few that were sent from Iraq after the Troops received the Banner and hung it up in their mess hall at Camp Victory.

We currently have had to shift our efforts into a different gear. Our focus remains the same, which is to send our support through each “Chocolate Chip Hug,” but our logistical strategy has had to evolve with respect to the needs of the project. Our focus right now is trying to collect as many addresses of our brave heroes as possible. Please, please, please send us addresses asap. Shipping through the Post Office, not only requires more financially, but it also requires us to ship the “Hugs” to an individual and that is where each of you could really help us. Whatever it takes we will “stay the course” and keep these brave heroes in our thoughts and prayers always.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update and thank you also for any prayers offered for our troops. I try to stay diligent in posting messages on the guestbook and the wonderful pictures our troops share so please check out the website by going to: www.chocolatechipsbygeorge click on the SOLDIER PROJECT.

God Bless America and those who serve this great nation,

Marlene Summers
