Our company was established on the 1930 invention of Ruth Wakefield, who accidentally discovered the Chocolate Chip Cookie when she ran out of baker's chocolate. She broke one of the bars of semi-sweet chocolate that Andrew Nestle gave her into small pieces thinking it would mix together with the dough and make all chocolate cookies. Needless to say, it did not. Thus, the Chocolate Chip Cookie was born. She named her invention the Toll House Cookie after the Toll House Inn, where she and her husband worked.  They eventually purchased the Toll House Inn. Unfortunately, the Toll House Inn burned down in 1984 on New Year's Eve.

One of the best memories I have as a child was riding a bike to my Grammy's house with my big brother. We would walk in the back door and immediately smell fresh chocolate chip cookies coming out of the oven. Sometimes she had not put the cookies in the oven, and I would sneak some dough. I continued to enjoy my Grammy's cookies as I grew up (and out!)  When I was in college she sent cookies to my roommate and me through the mail.  It was always a wonderful surprise to open the mailbox and see a package from her.  The cookies were usually all gone before I got back to the dorm.  Needles to say my roommate was never very happy when I came back with an empty box.

When a friend talked to me about these long stem cookies in the early 80's I could not resist.  I never could resist chocolate chip cookies.  Much has happened since our original company and once again I find that I cannot resist the chocolate chip cookie.

Our goal is to continue the excellent reputation the chocolate chip cookie currently enjoys, and in so doing, increase the number of chocolate chip cookies consumed in this country, which is estimated at seven billion annually.
